Evan Thompson received his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Toronto in 1990. His work bridges cognitive science, phenomenology, philosophy of mind, and Buddhism. Among his numerous publications are The Embodied Mind: Cognitive Science and Human Experience (MIT Press, 1991; co-authored with Francisco Varela and Eleanor Rosch), Colour Vision: A Study in Cognitive Science and the Philosophy of Perception (Routledge Press, 1995), and Mind in Life: Biology, Phenomenology, and the Sciences of Mind (Harvard University Press, in press). He is currently working on a new book titled Buddha and the Brain: Contemplative Insight and the Neuroscience of Consciousness. He joined the University of Toronto as a full professor in 2005 from York University where he held a Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Cognitive Science and the Embodied Mind and was a member of the Centre for Vision Research and the director of the Cognitive Science Program. John Vervaeke has a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Toronto. An award-winning teacher, he regularly teaches UNI250 Introduction to Cognitive Science. He also teaches the psychology courses PSY370 Thinking and Reasoning and PSY371 Higher Cognitive Processes.
